HAGLEY

PAWLEYS PLANTATION
Once known as Bogey Branch Plantation, this golf community was at one time a flat and sandy piece of ground infested with mosquitoes and alligators. The salt marshes and wetlands offered little except growing pine trees for timber. In the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s someone realized this property was perfect “linksland”. This is the Scottish settler's term for sandy deposits left behind by receding oceanic tides; no rocks or stones, just the island beyond and occasional shells. The birth of Pawleys Plantation began with the creation of the Jack Nicklaus Signature course. Wide green fairways lead to subtle greens guarded by the salt marshes and the barrier island to the east.
